Bat Box Project

Home > Bat Box Project

The Jersey Bat box project was started in 2014 with the aim of researching our island bats and also to provide additional roosts.

We originally placed over 100 boxes throughout the island’s woodlands but currently we are monitoring 45 wooden boxes (which include the traditional Kent box, the newer CJM box and a box from Acorn) and 9 Schwegler woodcrete boxes.

The Bat Box Project encourages islanders to support local bat populations by providing safe spaces for roosting. These wooden boxes are placed in key locations to give bats shelter, especially as natural roost sites become increasingly rare.

We’re always looking for new volunteers to help with monitoring and installation.
